2007 White Wine Of The Year

2006

Sauvignon Blanc

Nobilo

Regional Collection

Marlborough - New Zealand

First a word about Sauvignon Blanc and New Zealand.  Every once in a while the Moon, Mars and Venus and all the planets line up in the perfect order.  And when it comes to wine, that happened when the New Zealand soil and climate and the Sauvignon Blanc grape paired up.  There are few places on earth where all the right ingredients come together in such harmony.  It is difficult to find a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc that isn’t good.  Granted some are better than others so you still have to look, but you’ll be right more times than you will be wrong.  And anyone will tell you that few wines go so well with seafood and shellfish like a good Sauvignon Blanc.

The other night Mrs. Addict and I had the good fortune to try out a new seafood restaurant, and it was as good as its reviews.  To that we added Nobilo’s 2006 Sauvignon Blanc and we weren’t disappointed.  This is a great wine.  It is everything a NZ Sauv. Blanc should be.  It is crisp, clear and refreshing, with wonderful aromas of fruit.  This is a wine made for seafood, shellfish and white meats.  I had plainly grilled tuna; the Mrs. had a pork and cranberry roast.  This wine was a great match.

With a splash of green apple, a slight hint of lemon and grapefruit, and a finish that flirted with vanilla, this was perfect.  Drunk very cold you could more easily identify the component tastes, and as it slowly warmed to room temperature, the tastes blended to make something complex and wonderful.  Whether you drink it very cold or somewhat warmer, this is a definite 5…a must buy at any price, but at $10.99, it is a steal.  Buy. Buy, Buy!
