2006 Garganega Corte Gardoni Mael Veneto - Italy Price: $17.00 Rating: 4 A Must Buy At This Price From the Veneto area of Italy that includes Venice, this wine was very enjoyable. It had the aromas of sickle pear and ripe peach. It was a pale yellow, very crisp and clear. What we liked about it was the long finish, something you taste long after you finish the wine. This is a sign of a good wine, one that is memorable and lingers around for a short while after you take your last sip. Typical of this grape, the garganega is used in making the famous Italian wine of Soave. This wine would go well with fresh water fish or shrimp or scallop risotto. In this wine we tasted honeysuckle and pear, with hints of peach. It seemed that grapefruit was trying to break in, but couldnt quite get there. This all makes for a very good complexity of tastes that worked well together. This is a specialty wine so you might have to look hard for it, but we think its worth it. At $17 its at the high end of our tasting limit, but in our opinion, well worth it. We give it a solid 4; definitely worth buying at this price.
